'Project L' is Riot Games new fighting game and one that has been rumoured for quiet some time. Despite it being rumoured so long and even confirmed at EVO 2019, there wasn't much in terms of gameplay to show off.
However, the game is being developed by Radiant Entertainment, a company that Riot acquired a few years ago. In a short trailer, they described how there is still a lot to do with this title; including that the game is set in the League of Legends universe and will focus on more simplified mechanics.

@Padparadscha Dead true, arc definitely wanted to do a "anime" sort of with guilty gear. Granblue is kinda bit much for me in terms of how anime it looks but still pretty interesting.

      Padparadscha Dead

@Maritime I am more excited about granblue fantasy versus than strive. If they got a good story mode(where I actually get to play and fight. And not just watch a freaking movie with no decisions that let me sidetrack), then I might be looking forward to it.

guilty gear is sadly not as well known so I would've doubted it from the beginning, but hey we got strive to look foward too.

Most of the LoL characters aren't marksmen though, this fps really seems to emphasise aim and shoot to kill with abilities not dominating the shooting aspect of the game. Could be wrong though.

guys, simplified mechanics almost clearly means you don't have to do traditional inputs for special moves (i.e. quarter circle forward+punch for hadoken) and instead you have ability buttons with cooldowns. just look at the icons on the lower corners of the screens.

I'm getting some Diablo immortal vibes from this one xd so i'm gonna express all my feelings in the next lines : Tekken, street fighter, mortal kombat, ... this games dominates the fighting games scene because they are fun "not gonna mention smash because i've never played it and i'm a bias tekken fan LOL jk " , ask any fan of this games about that feeling when you learn how to execute a combo and they tell you that damn it was not easy and it takes a lot of practice but in the end it's worth it, the classic Street Fighter EVO 2004 between Justin (chun-li) and Daigo (ken) the hype says it all ,as i said I'm a Tekken fan but i love to play other games like king of fighters, guilty gear, soul calibur ... and of course MK or SF, but i don't like games like rising thunder for a reason and this upcoming L thing is giving me the same vibe and it's even more simple like ... i'm sure everyone agree that League of legend is like in the top of best MOBA with a very hard opponent called Dota 2 "both games are great but i'm not gonna say which one is better xd '', same in fighting games you have Street fighter vs Tekken vs mortal kombat, but MOBA jumps into fighting games ... i don't thing it's a good idea, but to be honest i played some of league and ... Riot games if you reading this please consider a new developers team like the Soul Calibur developer team, i'm sure they will fit perfectly but ... rising thunder is boring and ... if they gonna make you your L thing game then i don't know what gonna happensbut i hope for good ... ahh yeah and what's up with that "Simplified mechanics" ??? just saying that proves there is no relation or understanding of fighting games what so ever ... with all that being said it's up to you Riot Games to make a great game or a trash L that dies after 3 or 4 weeks of it's release Been playing fighting games since 1999 and i think i'm sure about what i'm talking about, i love all fighting games communities but nowadays with this much competition there is no place for trash game to join unless they know what they're doing and yeah nothing personal i just wanna get a good game and i don't wanna get hyped for nothing "jumps force ahm ahm" If you read all this than thank you ^^ And yeah hope everyone is having a good time and peace :)

    • it's BEEEMOO
      it's BEEEMOO

@Shout Something Out Yes SF would also match perfectly , but i want it more complex but also faster paced) then it will be a better fit 2D plane wise as you said :) And everyone will get what he want x) Peace :D !

    • Shout Something Out
      Shout Something Out

@it's BEEEMOO I really don't need to comment on your opinion about the tech, because, you know, it's an opinion. But I'll ask you, wouldn't you think that an SF style mechanic will fit this game better than SC, cause if we talkin SC then I think that the Samurai Shodown style (but less complex but also faster paced) will be a better fit 2D plane wise

    • it's BEEEMOO
      it's BEEEMOO

@Shout Something Out Well i'm not a native english speaker but i'm trying to improve my english so don't mind me please xd, well i respect your opinion but it doesn't matter to me, UNLESS you are older than me in experience cause i've been playing fighting game since the 1998 and i know what i'm talking about, my first time was with mortal kombat 3 in pc ... back when i was enjoying playing video games x) That being said, the mechanics in tekken or mortal kombat or street fighter or king of fighters or soulcalibur ... they're perfect in my point of view, but other games like rising thunder or ... they are boring as fu... and that's why they are dead ^^ << (more unnecessary symbols cause you like them) Anyway, my point is that the "Simplified mechanics or Ez mode" are things made for kids maybe or people who made you cringe when you see them play your favorite fighting game ... people (who grew up playing fighting games ) don't need that simple ez bullshit, we want league of legends characters in a game with mechanics similar to soulcalibur with usefull animations that's all I hope that's easy to understand and i hope everyone to have a wonderful day :) Peace :D !

    • Shout Something Out
      Shout Something Out

Your essay was kinda hard to read from all the unnecessary symbols you put, well, besides that, Riot Games owns a lot of $$$ but hiring the SC developer team? They probably can afford it, but damn, that's a very ambitious thing (In my opinion.). "Simplified mechanics" probably means easier tech or commands or just them providing you an Easy Mode MvC style.

Well... and there's nothing wrong with simplified mechanics in a fighting game. Smash Bros is extremely simple as far as fighting game mechanics go. You have three special attacks, normal attacks, and smash attacks. It's really simple to understand and definitely designed so that a child could understand it, but yet the game is one of the most played competitive games.

  • MrDorilean

Simplified mechanics? you saw competitive Jump Force out there? no thanks, i'll stay in MK11

    • Grayson Maki
      Grayson Maki

MrDorilean if you’ve seen Raging Thunder (what Project L is based on), then you would know that there is a lot of potential depth in this game. Even more than MK11

  • GlobusTheGreat
    GlobusTheGreat

Where do all these claims come from? Simplified mechanics? Is this based on gameplay footage, because I haven't been able to find anything longer than like 20 seconds. I can't find any concrete information about the game system nor real looks at how the game actually plays beyond what I understand to be speculation.

@Chaf Cancel With the input leniency of SFV and the general tendency in the industry it wouldn't be impossible for them to have movement and command elements.

@The nobody shit isn't fucking funny Yeah. It doesn't mean that Street Fighter IV was meant to play on KB, tho. No matter how much people did it.

@Chaf Cancel Do you have any idea how many people play Street Fighter on keyboard already?

    • Chaf Cancel
      Chaf Cancel

Rising Thunder had simplified controls, not simplified mechanics. It was still difficult to be accurate, since the game had SFIV-style links, and a Cancel system very reminiscent of SFIV's FADC. The big thing about RT is that it revolved on keyboard-friendly control. There was 3 normal buttons, 3 special buttons one throw button and one "Overdrive" button, the game's Super Move. No motion controls. And those specials were on cooldown, just like LoL's spells. The entire game already wanted to make players sweeping up special moves, and probably pay or grind for new special moves. Project L already looks like it's gonna start from where RT stopped.

    • LordfireTR
      LordfireTR

The game is made by the guys who made Rising Thunder. That's one of the reasons why everybody assumes that it has simplified mechanics.

@Guinea Fig Tekken 7 assists aren't auto-combo buttons but instead provide accessibility with rather hard to execute moves into combos or to include in combos. One example is binding a Mishima with a CD2 (DP/Z command, if others don't know.) will only produce the generic version outside the story mode which is significantly less useful when compared with the stronger CD2 which will execute if timed right. I think that Tekken 7's implementation of its assist buttons is a great example of simplified mechanics in a fighting game.

My favorite fighting game ever was Mortal Kombat X. After seeing MK11, it's safe to say MKX is still my favorite. Anyway I am expecting this game to have similar mechanics when it comes to combos. Easy combos are boring and the game would die quickly.

mk11 is not as fluid as mkx, that is the problem, the game feels heavy, even for MK standards, i know this is not tekken or any other fast fighting game, but holy shit, this game is slow, its slower than injustice, fuck me, i love mk, but mk11 is shitty.
